Zontee Hou brings a unique blend of strategic, academic, and practical thinking to all she does. With more than 15 years of marketing industry experience garnered from the likes of IMF, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, Allstate Insurance, and Indiana University, she KNOWS marketing. Today she leverages those honed skills and passion for advising and teaching as the founder of Brooklyn-based consultancy Media Volery and as the co-lead of strategy for Jay Baer’s Convince & Convert agency.
As if she isn’t busy enough, she is also a faculty and adjunct lecturer at Columbia University and the City College of New York, helping students create connections between marketing methodology and business goals. So it is fair to say that she is putting her degrees in marketing and strategy from NYU and Columbia to good use. Teaching and her busy speaking schedule also fulfill her performer's dream.
Unlike many of us who’ve ended up in content and marketing through technology, business operations, or even accounting – yes, I know an accountant turned CMO – Zontee has had her sights set on being a leader in the industry from early on. She has been a consistent early adopter and leader in what are now mainstays like podcasts, blogging, vlogging, and strategic use of content. This has enabled her to understand what it takes to build these core skillsets and help other organizations succeed and quickly get to market. Creative and loyal, she is all in on everything she does – bringing what she knows to the table every time.
Fortunate to have had strong female role models and mentors, starting with her mom, Zontee has shaped her career and company to enable success in all facets. As a new mom, she is thankful to have recognized that she didn’t need to be boxed in by anyone else’s expectations or limitations. And her best advice – build a network. “Connecting with others, and then paying it forward” has had the most significant positive impact on her career, she says. She’s made lifelong connections that started as a simple introduction and turned into key community members.
